An algorithm is a method, not magic.
You can follow one with four numbers and a finger.
A precise procedure
An algorithm is a computable sequence of steps for achieving a result. It need not involve artificial intelligence or a social-media feed. A method for finding the smallest number in a list is an algorithm too.
Run one yourself
Use the list 8, 3, 5, 2. Keep the first number, 8, as your current candidate. Compare it with 3; replace it because 3 is smaller. Compare the candidate with 5; keep 3. Compare it with 2; replace it. At the end, return 2.
Notice what you needed to remember: the candidate and where you were in the list. You did not need to sort the whole list or keep every comparison in memory.
The awkward cases are part of the method
What if the list is empty? There is no smallest entry, so the procedure needs a defined outcome such as “no value.” What if the minimum appears twice? Returning the value is simple, but selecting one displayed position needs a tie rule.
Those are not optional details when a program must act. A human might fill a gap using common sense; a reliable specification makes the intended behaviour explicit.
In the game
“Tap the smallest number three times” combines selection with an action count. Solving the first part correctly is not enough: the player must execute the rest. This is why a precise sequence is a different challenge from ordinary multiple choice.
Deterministic game generation is also procedural. With compatible rules and the same inputs, it can reproduce a sequence. That reproducibility helps compare Daily or Friend runs, but it does not mean every algorithm is deterministic or every repeated game mode ignores personal history.
TRY THE IDEA · NO TIMER · NO RANKING
You know the instruction. Now execute it.
Tap 3 twice, then tap 5 once. The 2 is a distractor: it is a count, not the first target.
0 / 3 actions registered
One browser click registers one action. This untimed exercise is separate from ranked runs and never changes your score or records.
